Rules of the Refuge.

  1. For the first two weeks of the resident’s stay, there will be no visitors, no computer use, no phone calls and no writing or receiving postal mail. Staff must approve all visitors during all phases. During Phase 1 of the program no cell phones are permitted. After phase 1 cell phone use is decided by the Director on an individual basis.

  2. Use of alcohol, illegal drugs or smoking is not permitted. Staff must approve non-prescription drugs. Staff can give urine drug tests.

  3. No profanity or vulgarity is permitted.

  4. Household chores are expected on Saturday morning until noon. Daily chores consist of keeping your assigned area clean and helping to clean up after meals.

  5. Each bedroom is to be cleaned and bed made every morning before devotions. Personal items are to be kept in cabinets, closets or dressers except for 3-4 pictures, radio and/or alarm clock, box of tissues if desired, personal journal, devotional and Bible. There will be a $.25 fine for all items left out in the room and anywhere in the house.

  6. Thirty minutes of exercise is expected daily.

  7. Resident is expected to attend an approved evangelical church every week.

  8. Telephone privileges are limited to four 15-minute calls per 24-hour period. There must be a 30-minute interval between calls. This includes cell phone use after phase 1. Long distance calls cannot be made on the Refuge phone without a calling card. E-mail and computer use at the Refuge is limited to 30 minutes daily.

  9. After 2 weeks resident may spend Saturday night with her husband and/or children, returning Sunday evening by 7:30 p.m. Staff and resident will decide other overnight stays.Resident is required to be present for all meals (unless prior permission is given). Menus are planned in advance. A healthy diet is required (no sugar, artificial sweeteners or caffeine allowed). The use of pork and beef are limited.

  10. Christian or classical music may be played at any time. Other members of the house should not be able to hear music unless previously agreed upon. Staff will check all tapes and CD’s.

  11. There will be no arguing with the Refuge staff or other residents. Small disagreements will be handled correctly as they happen with the house manager or a counselor. Godly confrontational/communication skills are taught at house meetings.

  12. Resident must work or attend school during daytime hours Monday through Friday. Work hours are limited to 30 hours per week. She cannot leave the Refuge before 8 a.m. and must return by 4 p.m. The whereabouts of the residents is to be known at all times. 

  13. Appropriate clothing is to be worn at all times. No bikinis, short shorts or skirts, halter-tops or sexually suggestive clothes.

  14. Thirty-minute naps can be taken daily between Monday and Friday.

  15. No R-rated movies are to be viewed at any time; clean PG movies may be watched but are limited to two a week.

  16. On a rotation basis each resident must plan and prepare dinner meals during their assigned weeks.


Requirements to enter the program.

  1. Women who are 18 years of age or older. If previously addicted she must have successfully completed a minimum of six months in a drug or alcohol rehab program.
  2. She must be willing to stay at least two weeks, but she may continue, if accepted, up to two years, which would include the internship program.
  3. She must follow the guidelines of the program and participate fully. She must have a willingness to learn and a teachable spirit.
  4. She must work at a job or attend school during the week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  5. She must be able to contribute $500 per month toward her room and board.
  6. A physical examination (AIDS, hepatitis, and drug testing) is required prior to admission.
  7. She must attend a local church every Sunday
  8. She must be physically able to exercise 30 minutes daily.
  9. She must desire to improve

Phases of the Program.

Come and See Program: Two weeks
A condensed preliminary program for those with time constraints, those interested in entering the Refuge full time, or for those interested in starting a Refuge at another location - $150 weekly contribution

Phase I: Three months - “Take Off”
Identify coping mechanisms and take off lies and false messages we have believed about ourselves

Phase II: Three months - “Put On”
Learn what God’s Word says about us, and put on the truth of who we are in Christ

Phase III: Three months - “Give Away”
Begin to give away to others the truths we have learned during the healing process

Advanced Discipleship Training: Fifteen months
On-the-job training in working with others and discipling them in their walk with God. Preparation for future ministry
